Maternity Reflexology

paula_roberts_maternity_reflexologyReflexology has major benefits before, during and after pregnancy.

Pre-pregnancy studies and extensive anecdotal evidence have shown that regular reflexology treatments can improve the likelihood of a healthy natural conception.  Reflexology can enhance fertility by influencing hormone levels and regulating the menstrual cycle and ovulation.

During pregnancy reflexology can be used to gently and safely relieve symptoms including back pain, sciatica, nausea, fatigue and acid reflux.  It can also be used to turn breach babies with a success rate of 70% between 34 and 36 weeks.  After 37 weeks this drops to around 17% therefore a course of at least 6 treatments from 30 weeks is recommended to give maximum benefit and to promote a healthy natural labour.

More than 3 out of 4 first babies arrive after their due date.  Reflexology can be used to help induce labour which in many cases saves the expectant mother from the anxiety and stress of an artificial induction.

Post-natal reflexology helps to restore the mother’s general health and immune system after birth and in particular promotes tissue healing which is especially helpful after trauma or caesarean section.
